Friendly/quiet Cows Looking For Someone New To Milk Them

We require someone who likes animals to help milk our 570 quiet/friendly jersey cows.

No experience is necessary... but you...

Must be able to learn quickly

Have very good English

Must be calm

Must like animals

You must be able to commit for 3 months(some of our backpackers have stayed over 6 months and some have worked for us twice)

You will start work between 5.45 and 7am. Our cows are milked once a day but at the moment we milk one herd in the morning and 1 in the afternoon... at the end of November/start December we move to everyone milked in the morning so we dont have to milk when its hot in the afternoon and if people dont want to work in the afternoon they don't have to.

40-55 work hours per week available.... your hours will be spread over 5/6 days per week(some days will be longer than others depending on what needs doing, the weather etc)…. We always make sure our staff have breaks during the day(at the houses provided).

You will learn how to milk cows, ride a 2 wheel motorbike, spray weeds, help feed, weigh and move calves and other stuff.

Accommodation will be a nice furnished house less than 400m from the cowshed and wifi and power will be included in rent.

The job is for 1 person

We provide wet weather gear, gumboots, milking gloves, some farm clothes etc

Our farm is only 5 mins from Waitomo Caves, 10mins from Te Kuiti and 15mins from Otorohanga, its approximately 1 hour from Hamilton.

We are a couple with a 10 month old baby and 3.5 year old who are on the farm with us every day so you must be okay with being talked to by a 3 year old We also employ another backpacker who has been with us for 3.5 months.

We have employed backpackers for over 3.5 years and did host wwoofers for years before that so are used to having people from other countries around.

You will need to have a car to get to the supermarket and explore on your days off.
