With a variety of dining options we have a need for cook's and chef's at all levels of experience.

Everyone here shares a passion for the mountain and the surrounding region because of the endless possibilities for adventure. Our Paddock to Plate concept means that the best of our surrounding region is brought directly up to the maunga for our guests to enjoy. Whether it's because you love nature the truly unique world heritage area or the obvious draw card of skiing/riding/hiking the volcano there are opportunities for real fun at every turn.

Working at Mt Ruapehu you'll be surrounded by like-minded people who are flexible willing to have a crack where needed work hard and then ski/ride even harder!


Assisting the Head Chef and Executive Chef in the day-to-day kitchen duties preparation and coordination of particular sections of kitchen production is what the bulk of the job entails. Other daily tasks include:

  • Ensuring quality standards are maintained with respect to food presentation cooked properly and delivered on time.
  • Understanding all outlet menus & recipes and be able to follow recipes and instructions carefully.
  • Preparing and cooking appropriate amounts of stock to meet demand and minimise waste.
  • Assisting with preparation and placement of stock orders within set time frames and conducting stocktakes.
  • Ensuring the necessary stocks are on hand at the right quality and quantity.
  • Ensuring food service is in accordance with customer orders in a manner and time frame that optimises service quality.


Along with your commitment to exceptional guest service skills and experience a successful candidate will have are:


Minimum of three years within a professional kitchen desirable experience in the following areas:

  • examining foodstuffs to ensure quality
  • regulating temperatures of ovens grills and other cooking equipment
  • preparing and cooking food
  • portioning food placing it on plates and adding gravies sauces and garnishes
  • storing food in temperature controlled facilities
  • preparing food to meet special dietary requirements


  • Level 3 or 4 New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality (Professional Cookery) or similar international qualification
  • minimum of 1-2 years in a professional Kitchen (Junior Chef)
  • minimum of 2-3 years in a professional Kitchen (Senior Chef)
