Last Light Lodge and Cafe is a summer seasonally busy lodge and cafe catering to the wider area of locals; farmers NZ and international tourists.

It is located 1 hour South of Te Anau and 1 Hour West of Invercargill within the small township of Tuatapere; population 550.

Tuatapere is on the fringes of the Fiordland National parks; clean air star light skies; with access to many outdoor adventure pursuits.

Cafe Restaurant trading hours :- Summer (daylight savings start) Open from 7 or 8 am until Late daily - Winter hours (daylights savings end) Open from 9am till 8pm Wednesday till Sunday; can be later by arrangement.

Our vision is to create a semi self-sufficient cafe growing herbs; vegetables; fruits on site and preparing or processing on site; serving high quality typical restaurant food and beverages in a mid-range setting and service level.

Restaurant can cater from 1 to 150.

The restaurant and café is busy with welcoming the guests; check-in them into accommodation; making real coffee; advising on best wines or beer;s serving them food; cleaning the dining area; etc…Almost all food is prepared on site scratch; baking; sauces; breads etc.

The owner-manager-chef has over 35 years of cooking experience in Cafes and Restaurants.


Ideally the person would have the capability to run the kitchen: food hygiene and quality control; ordering and organizing ;cleaning; cooking ;preparation and presentation. You should have a real passion for food and perfection ;work well with others and often alone; be able to handle occasional stress of a la carte service; be flexible and reliable on the work time; be honest and loyal be motivated and enthusiastic; and have a good communication skill.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Must have a very good english.

Must be available to work nights; Public holidays; Xmas eve ;Easter; New Year; school holidays ;functions ;etc.

Position includes all kitchen duties including cleaning and dish washing while working alone.

It also includes often to prepare meals for the staff.

Employment : from the beginning of October 2018 until the end of March 2019 (6 months) to replace our chef who will be in maternity leave.

Shift : from Wednesday till Sunday from 10am till 9 or 10pm with 1hour break and 30 min for lunch and for dinner. (9-10 hours per day) There is an element of flexibility required and given in these hours.

Accommodation temporary or long term can be provided on site depending on the person's requirements.

Meals can be provided depending on your wish.

The position would be engaged with a 2 weeks trial period with a 6 months contract.

Remuneration and contract would be negotiable on the individual’s skills and personal commitments.
